Day 3 – Lake Manyara
Your safari starts. After breakfast your private guide picks you up from your accommodation and drives in about 2 hours to Lake Manyara National Park. Enjoy a full day in this beautiful and relatively small park, which is famous for the large numbers of flamingos and the tree climbing lions. At the end of the afternoon you will start your journey to Karatu village for overnight. (It is possible to overnight on the crater rim; if you like to you can ask for it.)
Day 4 – Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti
Today you will descend 610 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for an impressive game drive. The crater is also known as ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ and is absolutely unique. One of the highlights is the rare black Rhino, and if you are lucky you will spot it here. After a maximum allowed stay of six hours in the crater you will start your journey to Serengeti National Park for overnight stay and the ultimate “Out of Africa”-experience.
Day 5 – Serengeti
Immerse you in the splendors of the Serengeti today with a full day game viewing in the park. Explore the incredible concentration of wildlife on your Zanzibar & Tanzania trip, such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, elephants and wildebeest. At the end of the day you return to your accommodation at Serengeti for a beautiful sundowner and overnight stay.
Day 6 – Serengeti, Karatu
Today you can enjoy another game drive through Serengeti National Park, on your way towards Karatu. At the end of the afternoon you will arrive at your accommodation in the charming Karatu village.
Day 7 – Mto wa Mbu, Maasai boma, Tarangire
Except game drives this trip also has a cultural aspect for you. After breakfast your guide drives in the direction of Tarangire. On your way you can visit Mto wa Mbu. In this lovely village you meet the local people. The village represents more than 25 different tribes (of about 127 tribes in Tanzania). Not far from Mto wa Mbu is an authentic Maasai village, visited by Ajabu Adventures only. After this visit you go to Tarangire to stay overnight.
Day 8 – Tarangire
Today you have a full day of game drives in Tarangire National Park. You can see the large herds of elephants near the Tarangire river, while migratory wildebeest, buffaloes, zebras and impalas crowd the shrinking lagoons. You may be lucky to spot the tree-climbing python for which the park is famous or the largest flying bird (the Kori Bustard).
Day 9 – Travel to Dodoma
Today you drive to the city Dodoma, capital city of Tanzania. Since the distance from the northern part of Tanzania to Ruaha National Park is too far, it is impossible to do it in one day. At the end of the afternoon you will arrive at your accommodation in Dodoma.
Day 10 – Dodoma
Before starting the southern part of your Zanzibar & Tanzania trip we recommend a resting day. This day is at your own leisure and to get some new energy for the exciting days ahead.
Day 11 – Ruaha
After breakfast your journey to the second largest National Park of Tanzania starts (about 6 hour drive and then you have your first game drive in the park). Ruaha has a high diversity of animals and vegetation due to the Ruaha River, which is the main source of water. Enjoy the beautiful wildlife and flora. At the end of the afternoon you arrive at your accommodation for an overnight stay.
Day 12 – Ruaha
Today a full day game viewing in Ruaha National Park. The park boasts of her almost untouched and unexplored ecosystem. Unlike the animals in the northern parks, these animals are less used to safari vehicles which make the safari experience very unique. At the end of the afternoon you will return to your accommodation for a beautiful sundowner.
Day 13 – Ruaha, Mikumi
The next park is Mikumi National Park. In the morning you first can enjoy another game drive through Ruaha, on your way towards Mikumi National Park (about 5 hour drive). This park is very famous for nocturnal animals such as bush babies and even aardvarks. Other animals in the park are elephants, giraffes, lions, baboons, hippos, kudus and if you are lucky you spot a sable antelope.
Day 14 – Mikumi
Full day of game viewing in the beautiful Mikumi National Park. The landscape of Mikumi is often compared to that of the Serengeti. The vegetation of the area north-west consists of savannah dotted with acacia, baobab, tamarinds, and some rare palm. At about 5 km from the north of the park, there are two pools inhabited by hippos. More than 400 different species of birds also inhabit the park.
Day 15 – Mikumi, Selous Game Reserve
Your next experience on your trip is Selous Game Reserve. You drive in about 4 hours to the Reserve, the largest game reserve in Africa. The Rufiji River provides permanent water and the presence of animals throughout the year. More than 800,000 animals live in the reserve, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and buffaloes. Because there are only a few camps/lodges in the park, you will feel like you are in paradise.
Day 16 – Selous Game reserve
A full day of game drives at Selous Game Reserve.
Day 17+18+19+20 – Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar
Your adventurous trip on the mainland of Tanzania has nearly come to an end. The Zanzibar & Tanzania safari brings you to your next part of your adventure, the beach. Your guide drives you to Julius Nyerere International Airport for your domestic flight to the paradise island Zanzibar. When you arrive in Zanzibar you will be transferred to the accommodation you choose. Here you will spend 4 nights on the beach to relax and if you wish you can book excursions such as snorkeling, a spice tour, a visit to Stone Town or even take a kitesurf course.
Day 21: Departure
Today is really the end of your amazing adventure. You will be brought to Zanzibar Airport for your domestic flight to Dar es Salaam to connect with your international flight back home.
You can combine your trip with various activities such as golfing, hiking, biking, scuba diving, balloon or helicopter flight.
