Ban on plastic bags in Tanzania

Ban on plastic bags in Tanzania
Kindly be informed that Tanzania will ban all plastic carrier bags effective 1 June 2019.

In an effort to step up the fight against plastic pollution in the country, the government will implement a new law that prohibits the use, manufacture and import of all plastic bags, regardless of their size or thickness.

If you are traveling to Tanzania we advise you to not bring in any plastic bags in your suitcase or carry-on hand luggage. Items purchased at the airport should be removed from their plastic bag as well before disembarking. However, the special “zip-lock” bags for keeping liquids, cosmetics and toiletries separately in your hand luggage will still be allowed.

We do hope that you can appreciate this initiative to protect the environment and that any inconveniences will remain minimal. At the same time, we would like to encourage you to think about suitable ways on how to make your travel more sustainable.

Should you have any questions about this new regulation, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
